Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes have a long, storied history together (one might almost call it a legacy), and it appeared that a long sojourn between bouts did nothing to dim their animosity for each other during their Columbus clash on Raw. Rhodes’ rough road of late has put the former Intercontinental Champion in a feral mood, and he gave The Apex Predator everything he had in a truly inspired effort.

But it was Orton, once again harnessing the serpentine instincts that abandoned him at WrestleMania, who proved the tougher of the two this night. Despite Cody’s expert reversal of the RKO into Cross Rhodes, Orton pulled through and spelled Rhodes’ doom with a mid-air RKO … moments before he hit Rhodes with the move a second time when he charged Orton after the match was done.

It looks like WWE has scrapped the Mix-Tag Match involving Cody Rhodes, Damien Sandow & The Bella Twins vs Tons of Funk & The Funkadactyls. This is horrible news, I was really excited to see Cody Rhodes in the grandest stage of them all. #Disappointed

Team Rhodes Scholars (with Brie & Nikki Bella) defeated the team of Brodus Clay & Sweet T (with Cameron & Naomi). The ending came when The Bellas were brawling on the outside with Cameron & Naomi, this gave Cody & Damien the chance to capitalize on the distracted Brodus & Tensei to score the win.

Cody Rhodes was shown backstage with the Bellas (who were admiring his mustache) after Damien Sandow’s match. Kaitlyn came out and told Cody that she had other plans and couldn’t hang out with him tonight. She also told the bellas that they could stay with Cody’s mustache and that Cody could stay with “their’s”.

Cody also had a long hard fought match with the World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio. Great match even if Cody came out in the losing end.

Some heroes fight for justice, some fight for glory and some just fight to bring a modicum of decency back to the world. Many might not call WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes a hero, but he’s doing his best to accomplish that last goal—in his eyes at least.

Rhodes may model himself after super heroes, but the WWE Universe doesn’t seem to appreciate his efforts. Fortunately, the third generation competitor has found a kindred spirit in ally in Damien Sandow and the two have formed Team Rhodes Scholars, one of the most exciting tandems in sports entertainment, their sights set on making the world a better place—first with words, then with fists.

Marvel.com recently spoke with Rhodes about WrestleMania, his love of the X-Men and, most importantly, the interesting new tag team partner growing on his face.

Marvel.com: So Cody, we have to talk about this new mustache—it’s become quite the topic of conversation. What inspired you to grow it?

Cody Rhodes: When I got hurt [last fall], it was the first time I’ve had off in six years and I wasn’t sure what to do since this time off wasn’t voluntary. I was just letting this mustache grow on my face and thought “You know what? I’m gonna come back to TV and I’m going to see how people react.” I didn’t know I could grow a mustache because none of the men in my family have ever had facial fair. The reaction to the mustache was overwhelmingly negative and positive; anything that’s polarizing in sports entertainment is usually something you want to keep.
